Naked Wedding

The Ceremony
A white wedding. A church wedding. A happy couple...smiling... smiling so hard it hurts. As they made their way down the aisle towards the altar, they falter, tension mounts and each step of this well worn path presents an unanswered question, an aching doubt.

The ritual's artifacts begin to take on new and sinister meanings. Wedding bells signify warning; the bouquet, a wreath to unkept promises. Old conflicts are replayed in the minds of the 'Happy Couple' and the marriage ceremony, weighed down and corseted by tradition, slowly begins to implode. The wedding march distorts, the flowers droop and the rings won't fit. The vows become nonsense and neither can say 'I do'. Stale-mate. As the ceremony's paraphernalia is stripped away, we are left with just the bride and groom, alone on an empty stage. The bare essentials for or Naked Wedding.

The Reception

Here, in this vulnerable state, they are forced to look at themselves, each other and their relationship. In a series of confessions they begin to delve into the female and male psyche. As truths are unveiled, inherited and ingrained patterns of behaviour are exposed. Past moments, personal and historical are relived, repeated and reviewed; sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, sometimes tragic and often ringing bells of recognition. Battles will be fought, will hope be kindled?

'The bare honesty of the production combined with sharp, stinging writing and a set versatile enough to match the actors' remarkable abilities makes for a painfully delightful production' The Vancouver Courier

'... the story is tranformed by music, dance and biting humour until it becomes something all its own' Georgia Straight

'Genius of a different kind. Foursight moves to a dance-riddled tale of love gone right - gone wrong that marries startling choreography with superb acting and one of the most ingenious set pieces in memory' Victoria News

'It's a visceral piece that grabs you by the guts and doesn't let go until the lights come up' Vancouver Echo
