Foursight Theatre presents

Aeschylus'

AGAMEMNON

The British premiere of a new translation by Philip deMay for Cambridge University Press

There are perhaps no deeper issues for our communities at present than those of 'home' and 'war'. Foursight Theatre re-tells one of the world's greatest dramatic texts - the story of Agamemnon, a king who sacrificed his daughter in order to facilitate the winds of war.

After ten long years of war,
The hero returns home in victory and pride
To a welcome that he could not have imagined -
And the circle of brutality grinds on and on..

How many children have been killed in war ?

How many children suffer at home whilst adults pursue their own ends ?

How many children & child-women have been taken as bounty by conquering armies ?

Can vengeance for one child's death ever be justified with the suffering or death of another ?

We live in an interconnected world - every time a child is killed in the name of 'humanity', we all become a little less human.

Our story begins with the ghost of Agamemnon's daughter waiting for Daddy to come home.......
